This is the BOW chair, the latest result of the extensive, continuing research that Zaha Hadid Architects is conducting within the domain of 3D printing and material experimentation. The unique feature of these farfetched furniture pieces is that they are 3D printed using PLA plastic, a non – toxic, biodegradable material from renewable sources such as corn-starch, which ensure lightness and stability. The chair combines original design produced with structural optimisation processes typically found in nature, with innovative materials and the most advanced fabrication methods. The pattern and the colour gradient correspond in redefining the traditional three-dimensional relationship between furniture and its setting.
