When someone mentions shipping containers in architecture, usually one visualizes low-cost design style. Well, not James Whitaker, a London architect and digital artist who is using the containers in a more intriguing way. He designed the Joshua Tree Residence – a luxury desert house, made out of shipping containers stuck together. He recently released the plans for this white starburst-like house, which will be situated in California desert, with the home’s design ensuring each container provides incredible views across the landscape. Custom-made for famous, but unnamed, film producer, its construction will begin in 2018. The house will be powered by solar panels that will form the covering of the parking area, and will include a wooden deck designed to blend with the surrounding rocky terrain.
